Provision of Clean Water Using the PWTCCBN5651 Peat Water Purification Technology in Catur Rahayu Village, Jambi
Catur Rahayu Village, Dendang Subdistrict, Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency, Jambi Province, is a peatland area with abundant water resources that are unsuitable for consumption due to their reddish-brown color, low pH, and high concentrations of organic matter and heavy metals. These conditions force the community to rely on rainwater or bottled water, creating economic burdens and sanitation challenges. This community service program aims to provide a clean water supply through the application of the PWTCCBN5651 appropriate peat-water purification technology and to strengthen community capacity in sustainable water management. The activities include the installation of the PWTCCBN5651 purification system, construction of a Village Drinking Water Depot, technical and managerial training for residents, establishment of a village water cooperative, and operational assistance with water-quality monitoring over six months. Implementation uses a participatory approach through socialization, focus group discussions, water-quality testing, and quarterly evaluations to ensure system sustainability. The program resulted in one fully functioning peat-water purification installation; enhanced community capacity, with 80% of residents able to operate and maintain the system; a ≥30% reduction in household expenditures for clean water; and the establishment of a village water cooperative to manage the facility. The activities have contributed to improved sanitation, strengthened local institutions, and enhanced environmental conditions, collectively supporting sustainable clean-water provision in peatland areas.
