Misi Gereja dan Kedaulatan Pangan Nabati dalam Perspektif Ched Myers: Studi Kasus Jemaat GMIM Kalvari Kapitu
Food sovereignty calls for the participation of various sectors, including the church as an agent of social transformation. This study examines the role of church mission in promoting plant-based food sovereignty in the GMIM Kalvari Kapitu congregation, North Sulawesi. Using a descriptive qualitative case-study approach, data were gathered through interviews with ten informants, observation, and document analysis. Ched Myers’s ideas on Sabbath economics and place-based discipleship provide the analytical framework. The findings reveal a gap between the church leadership’s awareness of holistic mission and the farming practices of congregation members, whose crop choices are influenced by short-term income considerations. The church has initiated local food-crop cultivation, but continuity and institutional support remain limited. The study argues that church mission can contribute to food sovereignty through contextual theological education, sustained support for local food farming, and collaboration with village authorities and farmers.
