Natura Simplex : Conceptual Physics III
We trace the history of particle discovery, from the identification of the electron to the gradual emergence of the “particle zoo.” This historical account illustrates how our understanding of matter has evolved, from the identification of its constituents to the proliferation of particles discovered throughout the twentieth century. This profusion raises a fundamental question : does the diversity of particles reflect a diversity of fundamental constituents of reality, or does it arise from different organizations of the same underlying substrate ? We examine the distinction between describing physical phenomena and seeking a more fundamental explanation, exploring the possibility that different particles arise from distinct organizations of the same underlying reality.
