New limonoids and a furanone derivative from the fruits of Melia azedarach L
Two new limonoid analogues, meliazedatins A and B (1 and 2), and a new furanone, (5S)-4,5-dimethyl-5-hydroxymethyl-2(5H)-furanone (3), together with nine previously reported compounds, were separated from the ripe fruits of Melia azedarach L. Bioassays revealed that compound 3 exerted mild cytotoxic activity against HT-22 neuronal cells when treated at a dosage of 10 μM.
