Corrosion inhibition performance of ammonium bromide derivatives as an inhibitor towards the corrosion of carbon steel in a 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution
The corrosion inhibition properties of surfactants (OTAB, DTABr, DTAB and TTAB) towards the corrosion of carbon structural steel (A3 steel) in simulated seawater are studied using electrochemical methods (OCP, EIS and Tafel) and the weight loss method. The corrosion inhibition efficiency of these inhibitors increases with increasing inhibitor concentration and reaches its maximum value at a concentration of 100 mg L-1, which was 97.9% (OTAB), 85.4% (DTABr), 77.2% (DTAB) and 79.2% (TTAB), respectively. The order of corrosion inhibition efficiency is OTAB > DTABr > TTAB > DTAB.
