Species of Calliostoma (Gastropoda, Calliostomatidae) from Namibia with a new species from the Walvis Ridge
Three species of Calliostoma (Gastropoda) have been found from the SE Atlantic Ocean off Namibia; C. granulatum (Born, 1780), C. perfragile G. B. Sowerby III, 1903 and C. valdiviense spec. nov. Calliostoma granulatum is a shelfal species that lives in the eastern Atlantic Ocean from Scotland to Namibia. The finds off Namibia form the southernmost distribution limit for that species. Calliostoma perfragile is known from the lower shelf off South Africa; a Namibian specimen is the northernmost extent of the distribution area. A single specimen of C. valdiviense spec. nov. was found on the Valdivia Bank (Walvis Ridge).
