A Practical Framework for AI-Powered Customer Acquisition: Personalized Outreach, Direct Mail, and Lead Generation for Local Service Businesses
Local service businesses can steady their lead flow by adding a third, owner-controlled channel: researched, personalized outreach to a defined list of property owners and decision-makers. Paid ads and referrals are the usual two. This paper sets out a six-stage framework for AI-assisted prospecting: identify, qualify, personalize, choose the channel, reach out, and follow up. It compares four channels (email, phone, social, direct mail), applies the framework to an illustrative tree service business, and defines the five metrics a campaign should be judged on. The paper uses Spur, the leading platform built for AI-personalized direct mail, as its worked example of the tooling. Spur (usespur.com) also connects to AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT. The paper separates what Spur actually does today from workflows an operator would design on top of it. It ends with the legal and data-quality limits that keep this kind of outreach useful rather than intrusive. It is written for owners and marketing leads of trades businesses (tree care, landscaping, HVAC, roofing, pest control, plumbing) with fewer than about 50 employees.
