Intercropping of Garden Pea with Brinjal under Different Plant Population

An experiment was conducted at the research field of the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Cumilla during the rabi season of 2025– 26 to find out the suitable crop combination for increasing total productivity, return and maximizing land utilization under the climatic conditions of Cumilla. The experiment was set up in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications and five treatments (T1 = Sole brinjal (100%), T2 = 100% brinjal (80 cm × 60 cm) + one row of motorshuti (30 cm × 15 cm) (28%), T3 = 100% brinjal (80 cm × 60 cm) + two rows of motorshuti (25 cm × 15 cm) (55%), T4 = 100% brinjal (80 cm × 60 cm) + three rows of motorshuti (20 cm × 15 cm) (82%), T5 = 100% brinjal (80 cm × 60 cm) + motorshuti broadcast (90%)). Among the treatments, T3 was the most feasible intercropping system in respect of brinjal equivalent yield (46.73 t ha−1), gross return (Tk. 7,00,950 ha−1), gross margin (Tk. 4,53,350 ha−1) and benefit-cost ratio (2.83).
