Perspektif Buya As-Shofa Tentang Zuhud Sebagai Karakter Krusial Dalam Leadhersip Di Yayasan Pesantren Ahlus-Shafa Wal-Wafa Simoketawang Sidoarjo Jawa Timur

This study aims to analyze the concept of zuhud (asceticism/spiritual detachment) from the perspective of Buya As- Shofa and its implementation in leadership character education at the Ahlus-Shafa Wal-Wafa Islamic Boarding School Foundation. Amid the currents of modernity characterized by materialism, consumerism, and a leadership crisis, the value of zuhud offers an alternative spiritual solution to shape leaders who are servant-oriented, have integrity, and are professional. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews with Buya As-Shofa as the key informant, participatory observation, and documentation. Data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman model, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that zuhud in Buya As-Shofa's perspective is defined as "not feeling ownership of wealth in one's heart" with the awareness that everything is "a right to use, not a right to own"—a modern interpretation that enables a person to become a successful professional while maintaining a heart free from worldly attachments. A leader with a zuhud spirit possesses characteristics such as prioritizing others, being able to mingle and engage directly in the field, having inner tranquility, demonstrating superior professionalism, and viewing leadership as a form of service. The implementation of zuhud-based leadership character education is carried out through the habituation of 10% professional zakat (alms), regular infaq (charitable spending), educational and social assistance programs through the Salik Shafai Social Institution, and the cultivation of a balance between emotional and intellectual aspects. The impacts include the development of a generous character in giving, an understanding of the nature of ownership as a trust, the ability to prioritize others, superior professionalism, inner peace, and life balance. This study concludes that Buya As-Shofa's concept of zuhud holds strong relevance to strengthening character education in Indonesia and offers an alternative leadership model that emphasizes devotion, service, and role-modeling amidst moral crisis and materialism.
