A Bibliometric Analysis of Global Research on Substance Use Among Young Females (2006–2025)

Substance use among young females has become an increasingly significant public health issue, warranting a systematic understanding of research developments in this field. This study presents a bibliometric analysis of global research on substance use among young females published between 2006 and 2025. The objective is to assess research productivity, identify influential contributors, and explore thematic trends using performance analysis and science mapping techniques. Data were exclusively retrieved from the Scopus database to ensure consistency in indexing and citation tracking. A comprehensive Boolean search strategy was applied, combining substance-related terms such as “substance use,” “drug use,” “alcohol use,” “tobacco use,” “addiction,” “substance abuse,” “substance misuse,” and “drug abuse” with population-specific terms including “young women,” “female adolescents,” “adolescent girls,” “young females,” “emerging adults,” and “college women.” This search yielded 4,014 English-language documents. The study analyses annual publication growth, leading journals, authors, countries, and highly cited works, along with collaboration networks and citation impact. Additionally, keyword co-occurrence and trend analysis are used to identify dominant and emerging research themes. The findings offer a comprehensive overview of the evolution and intellectual structure of this field, providing insights to guide future research and policy interventions. Int. J. Soc. Sc. Manage. Vol. 13, Issue-4: 98-109.

Abstract

Int. J. Soc. Sc. Manage.
