Physiotherapy Management for Joint Stiffness Following Arthrotomy for a Malunited Fracture of the Fifth Digit of the Right Hand, Using Ultrasound and Therapeutic Exercise at Hermina Hospital, Soreang
Joint stiffness is a disorder that may occur following arthrotomy in cases of malunion fracture of the right fifth finger, characterized by limited joint range of motion (ROM), pain, decreased muscle strength, and impaired hand function. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of physiotherapy management using ultrasound and therapeutic exercise at Hermina Soreang Hospital. A case study method was used involving one patient, with evaluations conducted using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), goniometer, Manual Muscle Testing (MMT), and Wrist Hand Disability Index (WHDI). The interventions included ultrasound, active exercise, passive stretching, and functional exercises. The results showed decreased pain, increased ROM, particularly in MIP, PIP, and DIP flexion and extension, improved muscle strength, and improved hand functional ability. It can be concluded that ultrasound and therapeutic exercise are effective in reducing pain and improving ROM, muscle strength, and hand function in patients with joint stiffness following arthrotomy for malunion fracture of the right fifth finger
