Green Chemistry and Sustainable Industrialization in Developing Economies: Bridging Molecules and Markets

This publication presents an interdisciplinary analysis of sustainable industrialization in developing economies through the lens of green chemistry. The study addresses the critical paradox faced by the Global South: the need for rapid industrial growth to alleviate poverty versus the environmental costs of traditional manufacturing. Moving beyond the outdated "pollute now, clean up later" model, this work conceptualizes pollution as a negative externality originating at the molecular level. It argues that preventive chemical design, based on Green Chemistry principles, is more cost-effective than post-damage ecological restoration. A practical case study of frugal innovation is presented: the green synthesis of Copper Oxide (CuO) nanoparticles using Psidium guajava (guava) leaf extract. This model demonstrates how local, low-cost biological inputs can replace hazardous reducing agents to catalytically degrade toxic industrial dyes from wastewater, showcasing a scalable framework for resource allocation and natural capital preservation. The paper further highlights the methodological synergy between physical chemistry and development economics, emphasizing shared quantitative rigor in statistical inference, multi-variable modeling, and causal analysis. It concludes with policy recommendations including Green Subsidies and Technological Leapfrogging to lower the activation energy for sustainable transition in emerging markets. Abstract
