Book of Abstracts - 13th GEIA Seminar

The thirteenth edition of the GEIA Seminar brings together 48 speakers from 31 institutions across 15 countries, spanning Europe, Asia, Oceania, North and South America. The presenters and participants come from universities, research institutes, airlines, civil aviation authorities, air traffic control organizations, and private language institutions. This geographical and intellectual diversity is one of the seminar’s greatest assets. It allows us to examine familiar challenges through different lenses, learn from different operational and educational contexts, and strengthen the international connections that are essential to the development of our field. The program reflects the breadth and dynamism of current research in Aeronautical English and related areas. Our discussions range from language as a human factor in aviation safety, pilot–controller communication, shared situational awareness, and communication breakdowns to language policy, language description, and the complexities of accent comprehensibility in international aviation. The presentations also explore language assessment and proficiency testing, including questions of validity, communicative efficiency, and the competencies required of Aviation English trainers and assessors.
