From Newsletter to Journal in an Evening: A Human–AI Workflow for Rapid, Open and Verified Publication of Applied Education Research

AI in education is changing faster than conventional academic publishing can follow. A paper that takes a year to reach print may describe tools, policies and evidence that have already been superseded. This article describes an experiment in doing things differently. Over a single evening in October 2026, a practitioner-scholar and an AI agent turned a body of 81 long-form newsletter articles on AI in education into ten thematic papers, each with original figures, verified references and an open disclosure of how it was made, and published them in Future Science Archives, a non-profit, open-review archive. The article sets out the motivation for the experiment, including the author's long interest in educational innovation and his concerns about the economics of academ‐ ic publishing. It describes the venue and its strengths and limitations, the source corpus, the workflow and the division of labour between human and AI, and the verification process, which found and corrected more than two dozen errors, unverifiable claims and one retracted study carried over from the newsletters. It reports the actual publication timeline. It then discusses the risks of the approach, including "research slop", weakened rigour and researchers becoming editors of machine-written text, and argues that these risks are real but manageable when the human remains responsible for judgement and the process is transparent. It closes with a replicable workflow for others.
