Patient Resistance: Magnifica Humanitas, AI, and the Common Good

Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical Magnifica Humanitas poses a challenge to the dehumanizing effects of current AI technologies and policies. He draws from the principles of Catholic social doctrine to frame an approach to AI that meets the standards of social justice and promotes the common good. This essay applies the principles of the encyclical to AI initiatives and the use of AI tools in academic libraries. It examines possible responses to AI and calls for a stance of patient resistance to AI encroachment.
