A Literature Review on Digital Legal Research and Case Management Platforms

The adoption of information and communication technologies (ICT) has changed how judicial and legal information is created, stored and accessed. This paper reviews five studies covering ICT adoption in the Indian judiciary, e-Justice as an organisational transformation, electronic civil case management, user acceptance of legal technologies, and the measured efficacy of electronic case-processing. For each study, the contribution, the identified limitation and its relevance to the proposed LexCore legal research and case management platform are discussed. The review shows that existing work is largely court-oriented and addresses isolated aspects of digital transformation. A gap is therefore identified between electronic court management and comprehensive law-firm management, and a set of requirements covering standardised case data, an integrated case lifecycle, role-based workflows, document and evidence management, and measurable performance is derived for LexCore.
