A Literature Review and Cross-Framework Synthesis of Racial-Justice Leadership Preparation: Toward a Being and Doing Recursive Praxis Analytic Framework
Persistent racial inequities in U.S. schooling highlight the need to prepare leaders capable of disrupting systemic racism. This review synthesizes 53 studies (2010–2026) examining how educational leadership preparation-programs address racial-equity and how race-inclusive frameworks inform leadership development. Findings show programs emphasize identity, reflection, coursework, and community engagement but address structural racism and organizational transformation less consistently. Cross-framework synthesis yielded the analytic Being-Doing-Praxis framework, which organizes racially just leadership development around consciousness development (Being), organizational enactment (Doing), and their recursive integration through Praxis. Results underscore the need for intentionally connecting racial consciousness to equitable leadership practice and organizational transformation. (99 words)
