Identitas Ilahi Yesus dalam Ungkapan ἐγώ εἰμι menurut Injil Yohanes serta Signifikansinya bagi Kristologi dan Soteriologi

This study examines the formula “ἐγώ εἰμι” in the Gospel of John as the core of high Christology that links Christ’s divine identity with His work of salvation. The background includes the debate between the Agent Christology (Dunn and Ehrman) and Divine Identity (Bauckham) paradigms, as well as the challenges posed by doctrinal distortions in the modern era. The purpose of this study is to analyze the linguistic and intertextual anatomy of “ego eimi,” evaluate its position within modern academic discourse, and formulate theological-pastoral implications. The method employed is a qualitative literature review utilizing grammatical-historical exegesis and intertextual analysis of the Greek text and its Old Testament background. The main findings indicate that the absolute claim of “ego eimi” in John 8:58 affirms Christ’s eternal pre-existence and ontological equality with Yahweh. The use of the predicate translates ontology into an exclusive soteriological function through the metaphors of the Bread of Life, the Light of the World, the Door, and the Good Shepherd.
