A Quasi-Experimental Trial of Digitally Supported Strength-Based Parenting Program in Hong Kong

Purpose: Strength-based parenting (SBP) is a promising parenting approach that may promote parental and children's well-being, yet its use in Chinese contexts is underexplored. This study developed and evaluated a localized, digitally supported SBP intervention for Hong Kong families. Method: Seventy-nine parent–child dyads were assigned to the SBP ( n = 41) or control group ( n = 38), with assessments at pretest, posttest, and 1-month follow-up. Results: Multilevel models revealed significant effect on parent–child communication openness ( γ = −0.08, p < .05), marginal trends in parents’ SBP knowledge ( γ = 0.27, p < .1) and positive affect ( γ = 0.26, p < .1). Exploratory mediation analysis suggested indirect association between SBP knowledge and parental positive affect through parent communication (β = .17, p < .05). Discussion: Findings offer promising signals that SBP program may strengthen Chinese parents’ SBP skills, parent-child communication, and parental well-being.
