Students' Knowledge Regarding Initial Management of Bleeding Due to Sports Injuries at SMA Budi Murni 2 Medan

Background: Sports injuries are frequently accompanied by bleeding that requires immediate first aid to minimize the risk of serious complications. Inadequate knowledge of initial bleeding management may result in incorrect first aid procedures, delayed intervention, and deterioration of the injured person's condition. Assessing students' knowledge is therefore essential to support effective emergency preparedness within the school environment. Objective: This study aimed to describe the level of knowledge among eleventh-grade students regarding the initial management of bleeding caused by sports injuries at SMA Budi Murni 2 Medan. Methods: A descriptive study with a quantitative approach was conducted involving 69 students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, with the findings presented as frequency distributions and percentages. Results: Most respondents were 16 years old (53.6%) and female (56.5%). The findings revealed that 62 students (89.9%) demonstrated a good level of knowledge regarding the initial management of bleeding due to sports injuries. Meanwhile, 7 students (10.1%) had a sufficient level of knowledge, and none of the respondents were categorized as having poor knowledge. Conclusion: The majority of eleventh-grade students demonstrated a good level of knowledge regarding the initial management of bleeding caused by sports injuries. Nevertheless, continuous health education and regular first aid training are recommended to strengthen students' competence and preparedness in responding appropriately to emergency situations.
