Evaluation of Burnout Among Healthcare Professionals in the Sous Massa Region, Morocco: A Cross-Sectional Study of 462 Workers

ABSTRACT Introduction. Burnout represents a significant occupational health concern among healthcare professionals. The present study estimated the prevalence of burnout and examined its associated socio-demographic and occupational factors in the Souss-Massa region of Morocco. Methods: A multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted from November 2025 to January 2026 among 462 professionals employed in public healthcare institutions across the six provinces of the region. Burnout was measured using the French version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory–Human Services Survey. Associations between burnout and potential factors were examined using bivariate analyses, with statistical significance defined as p ≤ 0.05. Results: The prevalence of at least one dimension of burnout was 82.3%, while 12.6% of participants exhibited all three dimensions concurrently. High levels of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization were observed in 67.3% and 39.0% of participants, respectively. Regarding personal accomplishment, 33.1% reported low levels, 21.4% moderate levels, and 45.5% high levels. Significant associations were observed with marital status, number of children, educational level, occupation, province of practice, type of healthcare setting, and working arrangements (p < 0.001). The presence of chronic illness (p = 0.003), overtime (p = 0.035), and working more than ten hours a day at least once a week (p = 0.018) were also significantly associated with burnout. Conclusion: Burnout was highly prevalent, with emotional exhaustion as the most common dimension. These findings underscore the necessity for targeted organizational interventions to safeguard the healthcare professionals in the workplace.RESUMEIntroduction. Conclusion.
