A Conceptual Approach to Postmigrant Futurism: Present and Future Belonging of Young Racialized Adults in Germany Amid Rising Anti-Immigration Sentiments

Abstract This article examines how research into migration and the livelihood of young, racialized adults rarely engages in a self-reflective process examining whether the scope of academic discourses contributes to the continuous othering and racialization of postmigrant youth. By reflecting on theoretical and methodological frameworks that connect youth’s lived experiences, political conditions, and future imaginaries, this article examines how a conceptual approach to postmigrant futurism can offer a possibility to examine how racialized young adults in Germany negotiate present and future belonging amid rising anti-immigration politics and what significance this bears for global youth research.
