The Effect Of Age On Hemoglobin Levels In Outpatient Patients At Gumuruh Public Health Center
Hemoglobin level is an important parameter in blood examination because it reflects a person's hematological condition and may be influenced by various factors, including age. This study aims to determine the effect of age on hemoglobin levels among outpatients at Gumuruh Public Health Center. This study used a quantitative analytical method with an observational cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 30 adult outpatients selected by purposive sampling. Age data were obtained from patients' identification records, while hemoglobin levels were measured from blood samples using a Hematology Analyzer. The data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and simple linear regression at a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that the mean age of respondents was 42.90 ± 15.38 years and the mean hemoglobin level was 12.67 ± 1.48 g/dL. The highest mean hemoglobin was found in the 18–29 years group (13.35 g/dL) and the lowest in the ≥60 years group (11.57 g/dL). Regression analysis showed an age coefficient of -0.035 with p < 0.001 and an R² of 0.397, indicating that age had a significant negative effect on hemoglobin levels. It can be concluded that hemoglobin levels tend to be lower with increasing age among outpatients at Gumuruh Public Health Center. These findings represent a statistical association and do not prove a causal relationship.
