Women’s Roles in Contemporary Catholic Family Education: Reflecting on the Model of the Virgin Mary

This study explores the role of women, particularly mothers, in contemporary Catholic family education through a reflection on the Virgin Mary as a model of faith, character, and holistic parenting. Drawing on a qualitative review of biblical, theological, and educational literature, the research highlights how maternal involvement shapes children’s cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual development. Findings show that effective family education includes moral, emotional, social, and spiritual guidance beyond formal schooling. The study further examines the impact of globalization and digital technologies, emphasizing the strategic role of mothers in fostering digital literacy, critical thinking, and ethical awareness in children. The Holy Family of Nazareth and Virgin Mary’s life exemplifies key virtues—humility, obedience, patience, perseverance, empathy, and reflection—that provide practical guidance for contemporary women in balancing educational, caregiving, and domestic responsibilities. By modeling holistic development, women nurture adaptive, resilient, and morally grounded children. This research demonstrates the ongoing relevance of Virgin Mary’s model in cultivating harmonious and high-quality family dynamics in the modern context.
