Gospodarstwo stawowe w dobrach spytkowickich od XV do XVIII wieku

THE FISH-POND ESTATE ON THE SPYTKOWICE ESTATE FROM THE 15TH TO THE 18TH CENTURYThe fish ponds in Spytkowice were part of a vast complex of fish ponds located within the river basins of the Soła, Skawa, and Wieprzówka rivers. These ponds were established in the 15th and 16th centuries. The Myszkowski family introduced carp farming in Spytkowice. A dispute over water led to the death of the last Duke of Zator, from the Piast dynasty. Within the Spytkowice estate, the ponds formed an extensive complex covering several hundred hectares and were supplied with water from the Skawa River. Fish farming played a significant role for the estate. This is evidenced by surviving historical records, including estate inventories, lease agreements, correspondence, and numerous court cases concerning access to water.
