Effectiveness of the Finger Hold Relaxation Technique in Reducing Blood Pressure among Hypertensive Patients at Grandmed Lubuk Pakam Hospital
Hypertension is a chronic disorder with an increasing incidence and is recognized as one of the major risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and various other complications. Blood pressure control does not solely depend on pharmacological therapy but also requires non-pharmacological approaches. The finger hold relaxation technique, based on the concept of Jin Shin Jyutsu, is a traditional Japanese therapy that aims to promote body balance through relaxation techniques. This study aimed to determine the effect of the finger hold relaxation technique on blood pressure reduction among hypertensive patients at Grandmed Lubuk Pakam Hospital in 2026. This study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 25 hypertensive patients selected through a total sampling technique. The research instruments included a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the finger hold relaxation technique and a blood pressure observation sheet. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Before the intervention, the majority of respondents (80%) were classified as having severe hypertension (180–209 mmHg). After receiving the finger hold relaxation technique, a reduction in hypertension severity was observed, with 60% of respondents classified as having mild hypertension (140–159 mmHg). The mean blood pressure score decreased from 2.90 ± 0.662 before the intervention to 1.93 ± 0.740 after the intervention. The Wilcoxon test showed a value of Z = -5.385 with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The finger hold relaxation technique had a significant effect on reducing blood pressure among hypertensive patients.
