Synergy Between the Public Health Center and Higher Education in Early Detection of Health Problems Among School-Age Students in Muara Basung Village

Students aged 10–18 years are in a developmental period prone to various health problems that, if not detected early, can disrupt the learning process. This article aims to describe the implementation of multi-aspect health screening, analyze the findings of each examination in relation to national literature on school health screening, and formulate implications for strengthening the School Health Unit (Usaha Kesehatan Sekolah/UKS) program, based on a Free Health Check (Cek Kesehatan Gratis/CKG) activity conducted by the Muara Basung Village Health Center Unit on 6 August 2026 at SDS, SMPS, and SMAS Kuala Lumpur Kepong, within the PT Adei Mandau Selatan area, Muara Basung Village, Pinggir Subdistrict, Bengkalis Regency. This community service activity applied a problem solving approach, starting from identifying needs based on data and the geographical condition of the location with limited access to referral health facilities, implementing multi-aspect screening, to evaluation and follow-up recommendations. The article was prepared descriptively by combining field activity documentation with a review of relevant national scientific literature. The examinations discussed include ear health, eye health, dental and oral health, mental health, blood pressure, smoking behavior status, body weight, and height, involving 432 students. The results show the highest findings in dental and oral problems (26.62%), followed by ear disorders (15.28%), nutritional status problems (8.10%), blood pressure requiring attention (6.94%), smoking behavior (5.79%), and eye disorders (4.63%), while all participants showed normal mental health screening results. These findings are consistent with various good practices of school health screening in Indonesia and provide benefits in the form of early detection, increased health awareness, and a basis for referral and further monitoring. This activity has implications for strengthening UKS and cross-sector collaboration, and is recommended to be carried out continuously and integrated with the school UKS system.
