Modified Mustardé technique for lateral canthal reconstruction following entropion overcorrection in a dog

Abstract A 1.5‐year‐old intact male American Bully was referred with chronic ocular discomfort associated with right lateral canthal ectropion and medial upper and lower entropion. Clinical examination revealed moderate eyelid scarring and chronic keratitis. The condition resulted from multiple prior corrective interventions causing overcorrection. Surgical management of the right eye was performed using a modified Mustardé technique. A narrow strip of tissue involving equal portions of upper and lower eyelids was excised at the lateral canthus. The defect was reconstructed using a full‐thickness rotational flap from the lower eyelid, with a Burow's triangle at the base to facilitate advancement. Entropion was corrected using a Hotz‒Celsus procedure. Postoperative evaluation confirmed proper eyelid alignment with good functional and cosmetic outcomes. At 10 and 30 days post‐surgery, the operated eye remained comfortable and symmetrical to the contralateral eye. At last follow‐up, eyelid conformation and function were maintained without recurrence. Surgical wounds healed without complications.
