SORONG TEPAK SEBAGAI KEARIFAN LOKAL DAN IDENTITAS BUDAYA MASYARAKAT DI KECAMATAN KUBU BABUSSALAM, KABUPATEN ROKAN HILIR
Sorong Tepak is a traditional practice of the Malay community that serves not only a ceremonial function but also embodies philosophical, social, and cultural values. However, modernization may affect the continuity of this tradition and the younger generation’s understanding of its cultural meanings. This study aims to analyze Sorong Tepak as a form of local wisdom among the Malay community, identify its philosophical and social values, and examine its role in strengthening the cultural identity of the community in Kubu Babussalam District, Rokan Hilir Regency. This study employs a literature review approach using a qualitative descriptive method. Data were obtained from relevant journal articles, books, theses, proceedings, and academic documents concerning Sorong Tepak, Tepak Sirih, local wisdom, and Malay culture. The data were analyzed through identification, selection, categorization, and synthesis based on the research themes. The findings indicate that Sorong Tepak represents local knowledge and cultural values of the Malay community. The tradition embodies values of respect, politeness, togetherness, solidarity, deliberation, and intergenerational transmission of cultural values. Furthermore, Sorong Tepak contributes to strengthening cultural identity through the preservation of collective memory, social relationships, and a sense of belonging to Malay cultural heritage. Therefore, preserving Sorong Tepak requires collaboration among customary leaders, communities, educational institutions, local governments, and younger generations.
