Benefícios da prática do yoga no alívio dos sintomas climatéricos: uma revisão integrativa.
Introduction: Climacteric is the natural transition between a woman's reproductive and non-reproductive phases, marked by a decline in ovarian hormones and symptoms such as hot flashes, insomnia, and depression, which reduce quality of life. Integrative and Complementary Practices, including Yoga, have been part of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) since 2006 and can help alleviate these complaints. Objective: To identify in the scientific literature the benefits of Yoga in relieving climacteric symptoms. Methodology: An integrative review in the PubMed database using the terms (Yoga AND Climacteric OR Menopause), including studies from the last five years in any language. Out of 29 articles found, 10 comprised the sample. Results: The studies, published between 2016 and 2020, showed that Yoga reduced stress, depression, and psychological, somatic, vasomotor, and urogenital symptoms, as well as improved quality of life. There were also indications of benefits for sleep, memory, and certain physiological parameters, such as blood glucose and heart rate variability. Some studies, however, found no differences in specific outcomes. Conclusion: Yoga is a promising, safe, and cost-effective non-pharmacological strategy for managing climacteric symptoms and promoting female well-being. Further studies are needed to expand the evidence base.
