Pemaknaan Spiritual terhadap Pengobatan Tradisional Minahasa di Jemaat GMIM Yerusalem Kolongan Atas dalam Perspektif Teologi Kontekstual Stephen Bennett Bevans

Traditional Minahasan healing combines natural remedies with inherited cultural and spiritual beliefs. This study examines its meaning among members of GMIM Yerusalem Kolongan Atas through Stephen Bennett Bevans’ contextual theology. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research draws on observations, interviews, and literature. Twelve informants participated: five congregation members accepting or practicing traditional healing, five rejecting certain practices, one pastor, and one Walian (traditional healer). Findings reveal different understandings of illness, healing, and ancestral and spiritual claims. Informants distinguish natural remedies from rituals involving disputed spiritual beliefs. Bevans’ Translation Model clarifies local symbols and practices, while the Synthesis Model supports critical dialogue among Scripture, church tradition, congregational experience, and Minahasan culture. The study recommends culturally sensitive pastoral guidance alongside appropriate medical care.
