THE ASSOCIATION BETWEEN BIRTH WEIGHT AND PARITY AND MODE OF DELIVERY AT SITTI KHADIJAH GENERAL HOSPITAL, GORONTALO CITY

Maternal and newborn health is one of the main indicators of the quality of health services in a country. Efforts to improve maternal and neonatal health continue globally. This study aims to determine the association between birth weight and parity and delivery type at Sitti Khadijah General Hospital, Gorontalo City. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional method. The population was 325 mothers giving birth between February and March 2025. A sample of 163 mothers was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was a secondary data observation sheet used to record variables from medical records, namely birth weight, parity, and delivery type. The chi-square test was used to test the association between variables. The results showed significant associations between birth weight and mode of delivery (Fisher’s Exact Test, p = 0.012) and between parity and mode of delivery (Fisher’s Exact Test, p = 0.040) at Sitti Khadijah General Hospital, Gorontalo City. Improved antenatal care services, early detection of pregnancy risk factors, and health education for pregnant women are expected to help reduce childbirth complications and improve the health of mothers and babies.
