Measuring the impact of change

Change is an inevitable part of all workplaces and industries. In the veterinary world, developments in technology, working patterns, business models, social attitudes and education have had significant impact on the way we work, and veterinary organisations have had to respond to changing contexts. Planned change is usually more manageable: we can have a much better idea of what is going to happen and when, who will be involved, and what it will cost. However, evaluating the impact of change is more challenging. This article explores the different types of planned change you may manage in the vet world, and some of the ways you can assess its impact, review success and plan for ongoing development.

Abstract

Change is an inevitable part of all workplaces and industries. In the veterinary world, developments in technology, working patterns, business models, social attitudes and education have had significant impact on the way we work, and veterinary organisations have had to respond to changing contexts. Planned change is usually more manageable: we can have a much better idea of what is going to happen and when, who will be involved, and what it will cost. However, evaluating the impact of change is more challenging. This article explores the different types of planned change you may manage in the vet world, and some of the ways you can assess its impact, review success and plan for ongoing development.
