Wyszli z Bachowic w świat
THEY LEFT BACHOWICE FOR THE WIDER WORLDThe publication describes the origins of the primary school in Bachowice, the secondary school in Wadowice, and the secondary schools in neighbouring towns. It outlines the situation of a young resident of Bachowice and the difficulties – including transport issues – they had to face if they wished to obtain their school-leaving examination or pursue higher education. It also presents profiles of Bachowice residents who left their home village in search of knowledge and a better life. The oldest known among them is Franciszek (Szefczyk) Stefczyk – the father of the founder of Kasa Stefczyka (credit union). Another, Franciszek Krupa, set out into the world only 30 years after him and became a priest. Subsequent generations set out with increasing frequency, following not only in the footsteps of their predecessors but also forging their own paths. This was the case with Piotr Bałys, who became a judge. After him, the following men trained as priests: Franciszek Gołba, Melchior Kądzioła and Józef Kajdas. Józef Gołba, Franciszek’s brother, graduated from the Faculty of Law and was the first to obtain a doctorate. Some graduated in law, others chose a military career, whilst still others became teachers. Unfortunately, not everyone managed to fulfil their dreams. For some, illness or premature death stood in their way.
