The Relationship Between Nurses' Knowledge Level and Compliance with Patient Safety Implementation in the Outpatient Unit of Grandmed Hospital, Lubuk Pakam

Patient safety has become a critical concern in the global healthcare sector due to the relatively high incidence of medical errors in hospitals. Although patient safety programs have been implemented, challenges remain in their practical application. Despite previous socialization and training, incidents such as patient injuries, fall risks, medication errors, and inaccurate patient handover delegation continue to occur, indicating that the implementation of patient safety principles is not yet optimal. This study aimed to determine the relationship between nurses' knowledge level and compliance with patient safety implementation. This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique used was total sampling, involving 25 nurses as respondents. The results showed that the majority of respondents were female nurses (72.0%), with the largest age group ranging from 31–40 years (44.0%). Most nurses had a good level of knowledge (80.0%) and demonstrated good compliance with patient safety implementation (84.0%). The Chi-square test indicated a significant relationship between nurses' knowledge level and compliance with patient safety implementation (p-value = 0.000). It can be concluded that adequate knowledge plays an important role in improving nurses' compliance with patient safety practices.
