Simulation Analysis and Performance Evaluation of DC-DC Converters and H-Bridge Inverters in Proteus Environment

Abstract This paper presents a hardware-in-the-loop simulation analysis of fundamental DC-DC converters (Buck, Boost and Four-Switch Non-Inverting Buck-Boost) and DC-AC inverters (Half-Bridge and Full H-Bridge) in Proteus Professional. The switching logic and PWM pulse sequences are generated directly via an Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller, utilizing low-level hardware timer register configurations to ensure precise dead-time insertion and duty-cycle control. Non-ideal semiconductor behavior, MOSFET channel on-resistance, diode forward drops and inductor equivalent series resistance are integrated into the power stages. The obtained results demonstrate that incorporating non-ideal component parameters provides a more realistic assessment of converter performance than ideal analytical models alone. The simulations also confirm the importance of appropriate gate-driver design and dead-time insertion for preventing destructive cross-conduction in H-Bridge configurations. The main contribution of this study is the integration of microcontroller-based control, gate-driver behavior, non-ideal power-stage modelling and multiple DC-DC and DC-AC converter topologies within a single simulation framework. This approach provides a safe and repeatable pre-prototype validation stage, reducing design uncertainty before subsequent implementation and testing on physical hardware.
