One Stir, Four Forces

This paper presents a speculative extension of Wave Origin Cosmology (WOC), proposing that the four fundamental interactions of physics—gravity, electromagnetism, the weak nuclear force, and the strong nuclear force—emerged as differentiated modes of a single primordial cosmic vortex. Building upon the hypothesis that the universe originated through shear instabilities within a primordial pool of probability waves, the framework suggests that the vortex’s original organizing action separated into four distinct physical interactions. These are identified as folding entropy (gravity), orbit (electromagnetism), point of view (weak interaction), and stabilized instability (strong interaction). The paper explores force differentiation through the concept of nucleation and early-universe phase transitions, examining how a unified vortex origin might relate to established electroweak symmetry breaking, quark confinement, and potential physics beyond the Standard Model. Particular attention is given to the relationship between the weak interaction’s left-handedness and reported evidence of isotropic cosmic birefringence in cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarization. The framework proposes that both phenomena could reflect a shared primordial handedness inherited from the original cosmic vortex. The investigation also considers the CMB as a record of all four interactions and, within WOC, as a proposed source of the physical structure and forces carried into each present moment. Connections are developed with companion WOC papers addressing the emergence of gravity and the redirection of primordial vortex spin into cosmic expansion, including the relationship between external quadrupolar geometry and internal force differentiation. Potential observational tests include gravitational-wave signatures of first-order cosmological phase transitions, measurements of fundamental constants across cosmic history, and improved constraints on isotropic and anisotropic cosmic birefringence. The proposed identifications remain hypothetical rather than mathematically established. Outstanding challenges include deriving the hierarchy of interaction strengths, explaining the sequence of force differentiation, and quantitatively connecting weak-interaction parity violation with cosmic birefringence. Abstract
