Improving Stocking Practices: A Focus on Supply Demands on Weekends
Weekend shortages of commonly used medical-surgical supplies can disrupt nursing workflow and take time away from direct patient care. This evidence-based practice project proposes a standardized Friday pre-weekend supply-readiness checklist for a Medical-Surgical Unit, guided by Donabedian’s structure-process-outcome framework and tested through Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles. Supported by current literature on standardized replenishment and staff-informed supply design, the project will use baseline and pilot data to determine whether the checklist can reach at least 90% readiness of priority items and reduce weekend stockouts by approximately 50% without causing overstock or added workload.
