Development of REACT Strategy Materials for 6th Graders

The aim of this study is to develop the REACT strategy instructional materials for 6th graders. The materials were prepared for the 'Supervisory and Regulatory Systems' and 'Sensory Organs' topics in the sixth grade science course. In this study, the materials were also evaluated with the opinions of experts and students. The study group consisted of a total of 76 participants from different backgrounds (academicians, teachers, graduate students, seventh and eighth grade students). The study, while incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data, is primarily structured around a qualitative research design, with quantitative data analyzed descriptively and qualitative data examined through content analysis. The data were collected through REACT strategy material evaluation form and semi-structured interviews. In the analysis of quantitative data, descriptive statistics such as arithmetic mean and standard deviation values were calculated. Content analysis was performed in the analysis of qualitative data. According to the findings, it was found that the materials were suitable for use in terms of content and design, and that they would be useful to teachers and students in the teaching process. Additionally, some deficiencies were expressed by the participants. However, considering the deficiencies and suggestions stated in the findings, changes were made to the materials and the materials were finalized.
