Developing discipline among student youth through football

In the context of war and security risks, the requirements regarding the formative and upbringing aspects of student development are undergoing significant change. Within the educational process, it becomes increasingly important for students to maintain discipline, composure, self-control, and courage; to overcome challenges; to act in accordance with moral and spiritual values; and to resist negative influences. This highlights the need to cultivate discipline among students—a moral-volitional quality essential for constructive behavior in rapidly changing educational and life situations. Football training serves as an effective means for fostering such discipline; through the sport, higher education students learn to adhere to established rules, mobilize their resources, align their actions and desires with the interests of their teammates, assume responsibility, and demonstrate initiative and perseverance. The purpose of this article is to explore the content and methodology of fostering discipline among students through football. Drawing on research findings regarding the development of discipline in higher education students through participation in sports games, our efforts were directed toward instilling in students a desire and need for regular football practice, as well as adherence to the rules of the game and established norms. Furthermore, the aim was to foster the motivation to remain composed, disciplined, and persistent, while developing the ability to be goal-oriented and decisive, and to apply the skills acquired through football in other contexts. It is emphasized that football competitions and active games incorporating football elements proved to be the most effective means of fostering discipline among students. Participation in these competitions helped boost motivation, encouraged students to demonstrate discipline, and required the mobilization of their physical and psychological capabilities. It should be noted that pedagogical and coaching expertise is of significant importance. Educators must provide students with effective content, formats, methods, and technologies; ensure their physical and psychological safety; employ a differentiated approach; and avoid making comparisons between students.
