Youth Migration from Türkiye to Western Countries
This study aims to investigate why young people are moving from Türkiye to Western countries, how they fit into their new communities, and what might lead them to return home. The study was conducted with 17 participants, including eight women and nine men, all aged between 20 and 35, who had migrated to eight Western countries. The findings of the study were organized into three main categories, each reflecting a significant aspect of participants' migration experiences. As the reasons for migration, the themes of migration as a last resort and migration as a pursuit of new opportunities emerged. Language barriers, obstacles in establishing relationships with the host society, demands from asylum seekers, and the anxieties they bring were the themes concerning the integration process. The decision-making process concerning a potential return to the home country and circumstances in the destination country were identified as themes with respect to return migration.
