Educative Promotion of Burn Case Management at the SMK Pawiyatan Community Surabaya

Burn injury is a traumatic condition with high global morbidity and mortality rates, including in Indonesia, with thermal trauma as the predominant cause, alongside specific cases such as electrical and chemical burns that require specialized management. In addition to fluid resuscitation and wound care, tetanus prophylaxis constitutes an essential component that is frequently overlooked due to low health literacy and insufficient public trust in medical procedures, often driven by erroneous assumptions regarding immunization status. This community service initiative aimed to enhance the understanding and trust of the educator and student community at SMK Pawiyatan through interactive health education and ISBAR-based effective communication training integrated with burn management materials. The outcomes demonstrated significant improvements in participants' knowledge regarding tetanus risks and the importance of vaccination, as well as the reinforcement of communication skills expected to generate a multiplier effect within the community. This initiative concludes that an educational approach fostering trust through clear and empathetic communication is highly effective in promoting tetanus vaccination acceptance in burn cases frequently encountered in daily life.
