Motion-compensated single-photon lidar at long range
Direct time-of-flight single-photon lidar uses a collection of quantized photon detection times to form each pixel of a scene depth map. The depth accuracy depends on many factors, including illumination pulse width, detection time resolution, signal-to-background ratio, and scene motion during the acquisition. The trade-off between noise and motion blur is especially noticeable at long range, when weak returns necessitate longer integration. Li et al. improve the 3D imaging of moving targets at long range through a combination of motion compensation and video super-resolution.
