Music information-seeking behaviour among members of Radio Telekomunikasi Cipta Universitas Indonesia

This study examines music information-seeking behaviour in Radio Telekomunikasi Cipta Universitas Indonesia (RTC UI), a student-managed campus media organisation. A cross-sectional survey invited all 220 active members and obtained 163 complete responses (74.1%). Reanalysis of the 64 rated items gave an overall Cronbach’s α of 0.951; domain means on 1–4 scales were 3.30 (SD = 0.43) for motive importance, 2.46 (0.51) for information-need seeking frequency, 2.53 (0.53) for source-use frequency and 2.64 (0.58) for barrier importance. Identity and branding were important or very important to 157 respondents (96.3%); trending or viral music was sought often or very often by 143 (87.7%); social media was used often or very often by 146 (89.6%); and time constraints were important or very important barriers for 117 (71.8%). Because many membership cross-tabulations were sparse, Monte Carlo chi-square p values and Cramer’s V were used. Four comparisons had nominal p < 0.05, but none remained significant after Benjamini–Hochberg correction across 24 exploratory tests. The findings therefore provide a quantitative organisational profile rather than evidence of causal role effects or population-wide generalisability.
