Expanding the phenotype of Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder: Occurrence of seizure
Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) is a primary demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system with core-defined phenotypes. Seizure, a manifestation of gray matter involvement, is not commonly encountered in NMOSD. In this case report, we describe the sequential occurrence of seizure in a young girl presenting with classical NMOSD features and discuss the mechanisms for the development of seizure in NMOSD, along with clinical outcome. We further extrapolate the different types of seizure occurring in NMOSD with suggested patho-mechanisms.
