Scientific and methodological substantiation of the content of the thematic advanced training program for pharmacists in the field of obesity management under martial law
The increasing prevalence of obesity, difficulties in access to healthcare for the population under martial law, and the expanding role of pharmacies necessitate specialized postgraduate training for pharmacists. At the same time, Ukraine currently lacks a comprehensive continuing professional development program aimed at developing pharmacists’ competencies in obesity management. The aim of this study was to provide a scientific and methodological rationale for the content of a continuing professional development program for pharmacists in obesity management under martial law, adapted to the current needs of pharmaceutical practice in Ukraine. A bibliographic and documentary analysis of international approaches to the professional training of pharmacists and the organization of pharmaceutical care for patients with obesity was conducted. A survey of 70 practicing pharmacists in Kyiv was conducted to identify current educational needs related to changes in professional practice under prolonged war conditions, the digitalization of the healthcare system, and the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies. The review of scientific publications, which constituted the first stage of the study, demonstrated the growing need for specialized pharmacist training in obesity management. The survey results identified current professional and educational needs among practicing pharmacists in Kyiv. Among the respondents, 60.0% reported that they frequently received inquiries from patients who attributed weight gain or difficulties in controlling their weight to prolonged stress or other circumstances related to the war; 24.0 % reported receiving such inquiries occasionally, while 16.0 % reported receiving them rarely or never. Thus, for the majority of respondents, the issue of weight control in the context of prolonged stress exposure is part of routine patient communication in pharmacy practice. The analysis of international approaches, together with the results of the survey of practicing pharmacists, made it possible to identify current professional and educational needs in obesity management, particularly those related to communication with patients under conditions of prolonged stress and the responsible use of artificial intelligence technologies. Based on the findings, the content of a thematic advanced training program for pharmacists in obesity management was scientifically substantiated, integrating clinical-pharmaceutical, communication, and digital competencies.
