NOTAS ETNOGRÁFICAS SOBRE AS PRÁTICAS EDUCATIVAS E CULTURAIS DA NAÇÃO XAMBÁ NA FORMAÇÃO DA IDENTIDADE ÉTNICO-RACIAL

This ethnographic essay analyzes the educational practices of the Bongar Cultural Center – Nação Xambá, located in the urban quilombo Portão do Gelo (Olinda, Pernambuco), focusing on the formation of ethno-racial identities and strategies of resistance to structural racism and epistemicide. The qualitative research, based on participant observation, interviews, and visual records, reveals the center as an Afro-centered educational territory, where knowledge is produced through orality, corporeality, ancestry, and collective experience. The voices of women educators underscore intersectionality as a key analytical category for understanding educational experiences within terreiro contexts. The study concludes that Nação Xambá constitutes a legitimate site of knowledge production, challenging Eurocentric paradigms and affirming Black epistemologies in Brazil.
