Objectification of Essential Powers and Subject Capability Formation A Structural Interpretation of the Free and All-Round Development of Human Beings

The free and all-round development of human beings presupposes changes in social relations and institutional conditions. Yet a mediating explanation is still required for how external spaces of possibility become actual capabilities of subjects. Although the concrete problems posed by the world are virtually unlimited, once they enter embodied life they are transformed into a limited set of basic situations: securing material existence, sensing harm, obtaining and regulating pleasure, restoring bodily rhythms, enhancing relations, resisting threats, restoring mental tranquillity, and reflectively judging paths of action. Drawing on Marx's account of the objectification of essential powers, this article distinguishes potential, objectification, and capability and proposes eight basic functions corresponding to these situations. They are not homogeneous personality traits or a transhistorical list of fixed essences, but functional possibilities that can be activated, constrained, alienated, and reorganized through labour, communication, and self-practice. Potential becomes capability through situational activation, rational regulation, practical objectification, and feedback correction. All-round development is therefore a socially supported form of contextually mobilizable functional integrity: subjects can respond to real contradictions, reserve space for autonomous choice and free creation, and contextually mobilize, restrain, withdraw, and revise their powers. Human emancipation is a unified process of objective social emancipation and subject capability formation.
