High Diversity of the Drosophila angor Group in Southwestern China, with Descriptions of Five New Species (Insecta: Diptera: Drosophilidae)
Five new species of the species group of Drosophila (Siphlodora) angor Lin and Ting, 1971 (Diptera: Drosophilidae) are described from southwestern China, substantially increasing the species diversity of this poorly studied Asian lineage. New distributional records are reported for three known species, and an identification key to all species is provided. Our results reveal a remarkably high species diversity of the angor group in Yunnan Province, where multiple species coexist in heterogeneous montane environments. These findings highlight the importance of southwestern China, particularly Yunnan Province, as a center of diversification for the angor group and provide new insights into the early diversification of the virilis–repleta radiation of the genus Drosophila.
