This dataset supports the manuscript "Genetic variability and correlation studies to estimate the potential for increasing grain iron and zinc concentration in temperate maize inbred lines". Temperate maize (Zea mays L.) inbred lines with white and yellow grain were grown in a randomized complete block design with three replications at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan. Grain iron and zinc concentration (mg/kg) were measured after nitric-perchloric acid (HNO3:HClO4, 7:3) digestion by atomic absorption spectrophotometry, together with agronomic traits: days to 50% emergence, tasseling and silking, plant height, ear height, inter-nodal distance, number of leaves, ears per plant, grain moisture, ear length, ear diameter, hundred grain weight, leaf area, stem diameter, ear weight, kernel rows per cob, grains per row and grains per cob. Analysis of variance and LSD tests were done in Statistix 8.1, and further analyses (variance components, heritability, correlation and path analysis) in R. The files include the plot-level trait data, a trait dictionary with abbreviations and units, the ANOVA mean squares, and the correlation matrix used in the paper. The data can be reused for studies of grain mineral biofortification and for breeding of iron- and zinc-rich maize.

This dataset supports the manuscript "Genetic variability and correlation studies to estimate the potential for increasing grain iron and zinc concentration in temperate maize inbred lines". The files include the plot-level trait data, a trait dictionary with abbreviations and units, the ANOVA mean squares, and the correlation matrix used in the paper. The data can be reused for studies of grain mineral biofortification and for breeding of iron- and zinc-rich maize.
